newsGreen Megalomania on the European Front Dutch architect Rem Koolhaa's design office OMA are proposing to re design Europe in order to reduce energy consumption by 80% by 2050 in a project called Roadmap 2050. Their solution is to create a network of renewable energy generators based on the energy sources available in the different places, such as solar in the mediterrean and wind on the Atlantic. These sources would be linked into a grid that would be shared according to surpluses and shortfalls. In typical audacious style the designers at OMA have gone further to redraw the political boundaries of Europe according to the need to integrate energy sources. The entire region is dubbed Eneropa and consists of the tidal states, isles of wind, solaria and biomassburg see illustrations. A practical solution or a cheeky poke at small time moves on the design of Green Buildings? Whilst they keep us guessing Roadmap 2050 has been sponsored by the European Climate Foundation and is currently before the EU Council of Ministers for endorsement.
