newsOn the 15th of September 2011, Hamilton’s revitalised public square 'Garden Place' was officially opened by the Mayor of Hamilton, Julie Hardaker. The ceremony included a blessing, mayoral welcome and speech and the unveiling of the new water fountain. Reset Urban Design have continued their involvement in the CityHeart Alliance with Downer and Hamilton City Council over the last 18 months, completing the makeover of the public square, as well as the adjacent streetscapes - Worley Place and Ward Street. The concept for the redevelopment was to rationalise the cluttered and under-utilised site, creating a stage and performance area addressing a central plaza, new retail opportunities via custom designed kiosks, areas for year-round seating, a shade structure for small events and a grand lawn with terraced edges for informal seating. In early 2012 works will begin on a new shared lane, connecting Worley place and Alexandra Street and will involve the removal of the underground car-park entrance structure, greatly improving the link between the civic buildings and Garden Place.
